With growth comes change, so the JAPAN LIBRARY team and the rest of JPIC will be moving to a new office. Starting from January 14, 2020, our office location will be at the address listed below.

In addition to the new 2020 series lineup, we are planning to reprint four backlist titles in paperback edition. The paperback editions have been revised and fine tuned and thanks to the lower cost of production, the retail price will be lower compared to the hardcover edition.

Translator Matt Treyvaud was selected by the Donald Keene Center of Japanese Culture as one of the recipients of the 2019-2020 Lindsley and Masao Miyoshi Translation Prize for his translation of The Music of Color, the English edition of Shimura Fukumi's Iro o kanaderu (色を奏でる).

For the regions of Europe, Russia, and the Middle East we are now working with John Rule Art Book Distribution and Marston Book Services. John Rule is based in London, UK and offers professional, personal services that you can only get with a small company.

An interview with Eleanor Goldsmith, translator of Every Day a Good Day, was featured on the website of British author Patrick Sherriff. The interview covers how she came to be involved with Japanese tea culture and the backstory behind her translation of Every Day a Good Day.

In conjunction with the Japanese lacquerware exhibition "A Secret Beauty: The Spirit of Japanese Makie" featuring works by contemporary artist Koyanagi Tanekuni, copies of the JAPAN LIBRARY title The Book of Urushi will be available for purchase at the bookstore located in the venue along with many other titles focused on Japanese art.

We are currently exhibiting at the ISA ASIA-PACIFIC conference in Singapore. The conference is 3-days long and runs until July 6th, 8:00 am to 5:30 pm everyday.

JAPAN LIBRARY titles are typically published at the same time every year around March in one concise package. However, sometimes there are a few outliers that fall outside of this time frame and are published at other times of the year.

July is already proving to be a busy month for JAPAN LIBRARY. In addition to AAS-in-ASIA, we will be exhibiting at the International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 11).

This summer, JAPAN LIBRARY will be exhibiting at the AAS-in-ASIA conference in Bangkok, Thailand (July 1-3). This year's conference is hosted by Thammasat University and co-hosted by the Association for Asian Studies.

We are proud to announce this year's lineup of all brand new titles. The 2019 series consists of 12 titles published by JPIC with an additional 3 titles published through overseas publishers working in cooperation with JPIC.

This past fall, JAPAN LIBRARY debuted at the American Political Science Association (APSA) conference in Boston, MA. Almost directly afterwards, JL then took a trip across the pond and exhibited for the first time at the British Association for Japanese Studies (BAJS) conference in Sheffield, UK.
